If you’ve got any burning questions about the adult industry, picking Angela White’s brain is a great place to start.
The adult actress – who was crowned as Pornhub’s most popular star in 2024 – certainly knows her way around the set of an X-rated movie after all these years.
She has been in the industry since she was just 18, so she knows all the tricks of the trade and just how much hard work goes into creating explicit content.
White – who has previously been dubbed the ‘Meryl Streep of porn’ – has been on both sides of the camera too, as she is both a director and a performer.
The Aussie has always been open about both her risqué career, having previously revealed the ‘biggest mistake’ she ever made and whether she’s actually faking it in scenes.

She’s very transparent about her personal life too, and has spoken out about what her parents think of her being a porn star and her one condition that comes with hooking up with fans.
White has also walked fans through what it is really like to be on the set of an adult movie – and it turns out it’s not as sexy, or as sleazy, as you might think.
The award-winning actress revealed that there is actually quite a mundane process that must be followed before every shoot, which involves a lot of ‘paperwork’.
“A lot of people still think it’s a shady industry, when in reality it is very corporate – there is so much compliance,” she told news.com.au in March last year.
White explained that there is a lot of due diligence which goes into creating a porno, so that filmmakers can make sure everything is above board. Fans only get to see the polished final product, though, as the admin-side of things wouldn’t be much of a turn on.
The former webcam model revealed that the age and name of each performer has to be verified before anyone takes their clothes off, and that stars have to show some identification on video before each scene, to prevent exploitation.

Then, there’s the boundary checklist which the actors have to work through.
Each person involved in the scenes runs through a catalogue of sex acts with a model liaison so everyone can clearly lay out their limits.
“We go through and say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ or ask for clarification,” White said, explaining that they can spend up to 30 minutes ironing out the details of what’s about to go down.
Even if two stars have worked together before and are aware of how far the other is willing to go, this boundary checklist still has to be carried out each time.
According to White, this is because people might change their minds and want to redefine what is expected of them from one day to the next.
However, the entire preparation process actually begins a couple of weeks before the shoot is even scheduled to take place.
White explained that performers are not permitted to take part in scenes unless they have a clean 14-day test which proves their sexual health is in check.
“So for me, because I work so much, I’m testing every 12 days – and that is a full sweep of STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV and trichomoniasis,” she continued. “We’re doing throat swabs, vaginal swabs and anal swabs.”

So, yeah, a career as a porn star has some pretty invasive aspects that viewers don’t get to see – although I’m sure some people would get a laugh out of seeing ‘bloopers’ from this part of the process.
But White doesn’t reckon that the responsibility of promoting safe sex or encouraging regular testing should fall on porn stars.
She doesn’t believe these aspects of lovemaking should be slipped into adult films, as she believes that this content is ‘not education, it’s entertainment‘.
“You don’t watch Fast and Furious to learn how to drive,” she joked.
On top of that, White explained that porn stars have to also maintain a good exercise routine alongside a healthy diet, as the job is so physically demanding.
“It‘s not like regular at home sex, we’re constantly changing positions and we hold them for around five minutes,” she added.

Adult film actress Riley Reid revealed the true cost that working in the porn industry has had on her personal life in an emotional video.
Reid – real name Ashley Mathews – swiftly became a hugely popular name in the pornographic industry after making her debut at 19 years old.
Over the following years she would go on to win numerous awards for her work, including Performer of the Year at the XBIZ Awards in 2014 and being inducted into XRCO Hall of Fame in 2021.
She has since used her popularity to grow a sizeable following on notorious adult site OnlyFans, so it’s safe to say that she’s made a huge chunk of money from her x-rated career.

However Reid, now 33, has been candid about the sacrifices you have to make when choosing to go into the adult industry, specifically when it comes to your personal life.
Sharing her advice to anyone thinking of joining the adult industry in a (now deleted) YouTube video back in 2020, the actress revealed that she advises people against getting involved.
“A lot of times when people ask me if they should do porn, I tell them no,” she said, before going on to explain how it can cause difficulty in your personal life.
“I tell them that it makes life really hard, it makes dating really hard, it makes your family life really hard, it makes intimacy hard.”

She continued: “If you’re putting yourself out there and the world is now judging you, you have to be OK with being shamed every day of your life.”
Reid then went on to explain how working in the industry had made her anxious about starting a family, as she was concerned about how her children would be treated.
“I don’t even want to have children because I do porn, because I’m worried [about] the way that people will treat my child,” she added.

Outside of her career in the adult industry, Reid has settled down after tying the knot with Latvian free runner Pasha Petkuns, with the couple welcoming their first child together in July 2022.
Reid has since revealed that her daughter has already received trolling online due to her job, telling viewers in a more recent video: “The amount of people who leave mean comments about my baby is crazy to me.
“Grow up. Stop being mean to a baby.”

The specifics didn’t stop there though, as the difference in interests depending on the ages of users were also highlighted, as Gen Z had some, erm, unique interests in certain categories.

When it comes to the results though, some adult industry stars sat head and shoulders above the rest.
Australian adult star Angela White was featured on the annual review, ranking as the single most searched pornstar worldwide in 2024, while ranking at fourth for most searched in the UK.
While Elle Brooke topped the list for British Pornhub users, White probably won’t be too bothered, as her accolades continue coming in left, right and centre.

“To me, that was so extreme, it traumatised me so much that anybody would even bring that in.”

When looking at the industry as a whole, Lisa believes that action should be taken to prevent younger people from accessing explicit adult content.
She said: “In the 90s, there was no way to see porn if you were under 18. Kids are starting to watch porn at 10 years old, so by 18 they’re addicted – they don’t know they are but they are.
“At the age of 10, they don’t wrap their head around the fact that we’re stunt people, sexual stunt people, we get paid to do this but it doesn’t mean we want to do it with you.
“And they’re seeing so much content that they don’t understand why you wouldn’t want to do it with them. So we’re allowing the access for free, we’re allowing it for under 18 and confusing the mind of many.”
